Suzette Sherman – Allied Member, ASID Raised in the Midwest, in a home eclectically filled with modern design and aged antiques, Suzette’s tastes were developed early. A formal design education at the University of Cincinnati’s Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program allowed her to hone them professionally. Beginning a career in New York City, she worked at top interior offices designing retail stores where clients ranged from Godiva Chocolates and clothing retailers such as Benetton, to corporate offices for Lehman’s Brothers, and residential tower lobbies for the Zeckendorf Corporation. Her years of experience in commercial interior architecture have given her a deep knowledge of the design process, and the intricacies of lighting design, construction drawings, and site supervision. It was while working on a luxury housing project designed by the noted residential architect Robert Stern that Suzette finally discovered her true calling, and opened her own residential design studio. Since then, she has had the great opportunity to collaborate on projects with influential architects on both coasts. During the journey of her design career, she has additionally taught at various design schools, including several years within the Interior Design department at New York City’s famed Parsons School of Design, and has been included as a juror on several international design competitions. Along with this, Suzette has followed her heart towards a deep interest in ecological design in a multitude of research and informational projects within organizations as diverse as the Environmental Defense Fund, to New York City’s Municipal Art Society. Being awarded a National Endowment for the Arts design research grant, she has written for numerous publications on the subject of design and ecology, culminating in a widely distributed research booklet on green design resulting in inclusion in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICA. |
