Low modern furnishings reinforce a horizontal look, and give a more spacious feeling. This design renovation in the San Francisco Bay Area illustrates how the architect’s addition of punctures into the existing exterior shell gives a new contemporary edge and an airier feel to a small mid-century house. New furnishings were carefully selected and coordinated with existing pieces to provide just the right amount of furniture while still allowing the rooms to appear spacious. This less-is-more approach extended to all rooms throughout the house. The furnishings are a mixture of modern classics, new avande guard, as well as finely handcrafted originals, along with a few authorized reproductions of older 40’s inspired pieces which together give the residence a modern yet eclectic feel. An inspired art collection hung throughout offer pattern, texture, and narrative dimension to each individual space. Previously living in a traditional craftsman house, these homeowners now have a home that truly reflects their family’s modern lifestyle. |
