Wine Cellar – “Napa Valley Wine Cellar design”

The experiences a space will provide drives the program from which the design evolves.

A wine cellar is not just a wine cellar, it is a place where a variety of personal and communal experiences take place. We work closely with you to provide for all possible scenarios. In such an unusually grand wine cellar, there was an opportunity to create a space beyond a place for simply storing wine. The clients wanted to have a tasting room that suited the nature of their business, and their love of wine as well.

One first enters the temperature-controlled wine cellar through the tasting room. This room serves several functions, a showplace to dine with friends and clients, a tasting room to sample the annual harvest, and a clubby after-dinner smoking room. The walls are lined with magnums of the family’s label, and wall niches allow a place to display the favorites. A round wood table with heavy-scaled wood chairs gives a robust character. Intimate lighting provides a warm place to sit intimately for hours of tasting and conversation. Leather lounge chairs offer a comfortable place to smoke, converse, and spend time tucked away deep in thought. Additionally, a discreet alcove provides a sink, dishwasher, and storage cabinets to prepare and serve food and wine.

Storing two thousand bottles, this large wine cellar with coffered ceilings offers a destination for lingering and taking in the atmosphere. The custom wine racks are lit by single hanging Edison bulbs just bright enough to read labels, but also give a dim glow enhancing the dramatic cellar experience.
